Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital is a place created especially for children and the families who care for them. From the moment a child arrives, they are surrounded by expert pediatric teams, thoughtful spaces designed just for kids, and a care experience built around comfort, communication, and healing.
Through its partnership with the Novant Health Charlotte Marathon, our community has raised nearly $500,000 since 2013 to support pediatric patients and families at Hemby. These funds help ensure children receive high-quality, specialized care close to home—while families receive the guidance, reassurance, and resources they need during their child’s care journey.

Each year, the Novant Health Charlotte Marathon honors patients of Hemby Children’s. Each of these patients and their stories represent all of the amazing kids that the Hemby Children’s team supports each and every day. These remarkable children will be represented by a “Meaningful Mile” featuring their pictures along the race route. When you run for Team Hemby, you are running for our Hemby Heroes!
The Novant Health Charlotte Marathon Charity Chasers are running with purpose. Through one-time donations and pledges tied to the number of runners they pass on race day, each Charity Chaser is turning their marathon experience into meaningful support for Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital.
Philip Sanford
Success as an event director and peer-to-peer fundraiser gave Philip real-life experience as to how an event can mean more than just a finish line; how it can be a platform for connection, community, and meaningful dollars raised. Bringing that same mindset to the marathon is a natural and easy next step. “Events like this show how powerful this community can be when it rallies around something important.”
Jocelyn and Chris Ingram
For Jocelyn Ingram, this will be her third year as a Charity Chaser. Since moving to Charlotte, she’s been deeply involved in the local running community as a coach, volunteer, and supporter; working water stops, cheering from sidewalks, and pacing runners toward their goals.
Her connection to children’s health is personal: Jocelyn’s second daughter was a NICU baby, and today she’s a strong teenage athlete. It’s a constant reminder to her of what quality care can mean for a family. Running for Team Hemby and as a Charity Chaser gives Jocelyn a way to give back. “It makes it all more powerful than just running,” she says. For her, it’s about grassroots fundraising; talking with people at run clubs, over coffee, and at group runs, and inviting them to chip in whatever they can.
This year, Jocelyn is bringing her husband, Chris, fully into the effort. After jumping in late last year to cover the first half of the marathon and act as a “hype runner,” he’s returning for the full distance as an official Charity Chaser. Jocelyn jokes that there’s a bit of friendly competition in their household, but at the heart of it, they’re united around the same goal: more smiles, more support, and more resources for the kids at Hemby.
