Belk Bowl Moments

The photo above is perhaps my favorite moment from last year’s Belk Bowl. With a huge lead in the 4th quarter head coach Dan Mullen had called a timeout to allow his star quarterback, Dak Prescott, to trot off the field one last time wearing the maroon and white.

It was an incredibly special moment for not only Precott, who had just put on a virtuoso performance, but also for the fan base who he had lifted to new levels over the previous four years. The fans from both teams stood and applauded, and his teammates surrounded him with hugs, high fives, and encouragement. It really felt like the perfect way for a career like his to end, and in no way could it have been choreographed better.

Moments like these are some of the things that make college football one of the more compelling sports in the world. These players and fans live and die each Saturday and bowl games often times give them the perfect way to end the season or career.

While there is no real way to predict what that moment will be for the Belk Bowl is this year, or even who is playing in the game, I invite you to join me in the stadium on December 29th to experience history.

The Charlotte Sports Foundation, in partnership with the Charlotte Chamber, this week announced a new programmed called “Hail to the Heroes” that is aimed at sending first responders, teachers, and military personal to the Belk Bowl for free. To help make this happen we are asking local businesses to help pitch in and purchase packages to support this initiative.
