As the largest and most accessible city between Atlanta and Washington, D.C., Charlotte is within a two-hour flight of where more than 60 percent of the U.S. population lives. The Charlotte metro area is home to more than 30,000 hotel rooms, including 4,500-plus hotel rooms in Uptown Charlotte.
More than 200 restaurants and bars are located in Center City, and two-thirds are locally owned.
There are more than 46,000 parking spaces throughout Uptown Charlotte, most of which are within walking distance to major sports facilities, including Bank of America Stadium, Time Warner Cable Arena and BB&T Ballpark.
A national hub for professional sports, Charlotte is home to six teams, including: the NFL Carolina Panthers, NBA Charlotte Hornets, AAA Charlotte Knights, MLL Charlotte Hounds, USL Charlotte Independence, and the AHL Charlotte Checkers. The city also hosts the Wells Fargo Championship (golf) each spring and will host the PGA Championship in 2017.
More than 90 percent of all NASCAR teams are located in the Charlotte region, with many of the race shops open to the public for tours. Additionally, the area is home to the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Charlotte Motor Speedway, which hosts NASCAR races in May and October of each year.
Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers, completed $165 million in renovations in 2014, including: updating 158 luxury suites, adding two giant high-definition video boards, the longest 360-degree ribbon boards in the NFL, four new party plazas, and more.
Charlotte is the second fastest-growing big city in the nation, according to a U.S. Census Bureau report of cities with populations of 500,000 or larger. The report, released in 2015, says Charlotte’s population grew by 8.4 percent from 2010 to 2013.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport, the nation’s sixth-busiest in take offs and landings, is a 15-minute ride from Center City. With more than 700 flights daily, the airport has direct flights to nearly all major cities in the U.S. and a total of 140 destinations worldwide.
Charlotte’s weather offers four distinct seasons, with balanced summers and winters. The number of days with sunshine averages to be 212, and extreme conditions are rare, allowing year-round use of the city’s 210 parks, more than 37 miles of greenways, and more than 40 public and semi-private golf courses.
