Wake Forest Will Face Texas A&M in 2017 Belk Bowl

Charlotte, N.C. – The Belk Bowl announced today that the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will face the Texas A&M Aggies in the 2017 Belk Bowl. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29th. The game, celebrating its 16th year, will be televised nationally by ESPN. For the 2017 Belk Bowl, Wake Forest is designated the away team and Texas A&M is designated the home team. Wake Forest is making its second appearance in the game, having defeated UConn24-10 in 2007. Texas A&M will be making its first appearance in the game.

Wake Forest finished the season with a 7-5 overall record (4-4 ACC) and tied for third in the ACC Atlantic Division. The Demon Deacons wins include a 30-24 upset of #19 NC State and a 42-32 win over reigning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson and Louisville. They pushed then-#3 Notre Dame to the limit in a 48-37 shootout loss.

Texas A&M finished the season with a 7-5 overall record (4-4 SEC). They finished tied for third in the SEC West Division. The Aggies won two of their last three games to end the season. They defeated Arkansas, South Carolina, Ole Miss and Florida in the SEC. Three of their losses came to teams ranked in the Top 20 (Alabama, Auburn, LSU).

College football’s only bowl game to call the Carolinas home, the Belk Bowl has long-term partnerships in place with Belk, ESPN, the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference, all through 2019. The game is played at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. Belk has been the title sponsor of the Belk Bowl since 2011, working to help increase the Bowl’s visibility both regionally and nationally.
