Wake Forest University and the Charlotte Sports Foundation (CSF) today announced that Wake Forest will play its regular season game against the University of Notre Dame in Charlotte on September 26, 2020. The announcement was made this afternoon at Bank of America Stadium by Wake Forest athletics director Ron Wellman and Will Webb, executive director of the Charlotte Sports Foundation.
“We have a lot of alumni in the Charlotte area and we brought 20,000 people with us when we played in the bowl game in 2007,” said Wellman. “We will still have six games in our home stadium in 2020 and this is a great opportunity for us to play in an NFL stadium. Notre Dame has a strong following and when you look at both teams, this could be a very good game.”
“We are thrilled for the opportunity to be part of this game,” said Webb. “This is a tremendous matchup and we are looking forward to welcoming two great fan bases in the city of Charlotte.”
Wake Forest and Notre Dame have met three times in football. The Fighting Irish won the first meeting, 24-17 in 2011 at BB&T Field. Wake Forest visited South Bend in 2012 and 2015 with the Irish posting wins in both contests.
Wake Forest is scheduled to play at Notre Dame on Nov. 4, 2017 and will host the Irish at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem on Nov. 17, 2018.
